Worthing planners unanimously backed plans to knock down an existing care home and replace it with a bigger, more modern facility.
The proposal will see the existing Sussex Clinic building in Shelley Road replaced with a contemporary 62-bedroom facility.
Those behind the scheme claim it will provide an “exciting and innovative building of quality” which will provide care for the elderly, fragile and vulnerable.
After the vote on Wednesday night, Councillor Paul Yallop, chairman of Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee, said: “As people across the UK continue to live longer there is a clear evidence of need for additional nursing home beds in Worthing.
“The Committee voted unanimously to pass the application with conditions including a review/redesign of the proposed parking provision and soft landscaping including trees along the Shelley Road boundary.”
