Work to get Worthing’s Splash Pad attraction up and running continues today.
Due to bacteria in the pipe network which is affecting water quality, it has been unsafe to open the play area on the seafront this summer.
Test results to ensure the water quality is of the required standard are ongoing and we are continuing to disinfect the network to flush out the bacteria.
Contractors were back on site again this morning using water treatment test strips to check the level of cleaning chemical being flushed through the system.
Once all the cleaning chemical is out the system a further set of water tests can be taken and sent off to the lab. As soon as we receive a positive result, the attraction will be reopened.
Fencing remains in place around Splash Pad with signs in place informing the public of the reason of the closure.
A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: “We are sorry we cannot open this popular attraction but we are sure residents would wish us to be 100 per cent sure that the water is pure.
“We are doing everything we can to make sure the attraction is up and running as soon as possible. But we will not open it before we are certain that it is safe.”
