Tomorrow is Victory in Europe Day or VE Day, marking 75 years since the guns fell silent ending World War II in Europe.

The Chairman of Adur District Council, Cllr Lt. Col. George Barton TD and the Mayor of Worthing, Cllr Hazel Thorpe share these comments,

“The 75th anniversary is a time to reflect on the enormous sacrifice, courage and determination of people who saw us through a dark time, and those who continue to do so in the current situation. Capt. Tom Moore is an inspirational role model reminding us all of their resilience and tenacity in doing their duty.”

“We remember those who gave their lives, those members of the Armed Forces and Merchant Navy, or those who returned injured. We remember the hard-working women and men who operated the factories, mines, shipyards and farms, and ARP wardens, police officers, doctors, nurses, those in the fire service, local defence volunteers who toiled selflessly on the home front during difficult and uncertain times.

“While we cannot gather together, we remain united in solidarity commemorating this historic day. We invite you to join with us tomorrow at 11am for a 2 minute silence at your home, to pay our respects to those who gave so much.”
