There are many beautiful gardens in Adur and Worthing, the results of the skill and hard work of our gardeners! 🌼🌸🌺
Some pockets of beauty however are completely unplanned and that is evident in some of our streets right now.
This beautiful flower, Campanula garganica, or Adriatic bellflower, is adding a beautiful dash of colour to many walls and pavements. They have lovely bell-like flowers and thrive in cottage gardens schemes but it also needs little encouragement to quickly fill cracks in walls and paving. As well as looking beautiful the flowers are extremely attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Highdown Gardens project manager Gary Prescod said "There are a few species of campanula that are tough enough to survive in wall crevices including Campanula garganica and Campanula portenschlagiana.
"Great varieties to look out for are 'Mrs Resholt', which was awarded Plant of the Year at Chelsea Flower Show in 2012, and 'Dickson's Gold' which has beautiful golden yellow foliage that makes the profusion of blue flowers even more striking."
