Specialist crews continue to work on site at Brooklands Park after a diesel spill on the neighbouring Lancing Business Park last week.
Teams have been busy clearing the source of the pollution and working their way through the groundwater pipes to remove all traces of the fuel.
Some visitors may have noticed a small number of dead fish within the contained contaminated area of the lake this morning.
The animals have been washed out of the groundwater pipes, where contamination was its worst, and into the lake.
Thorough checks on all the wildlife within the lake have been undertaken and, thanks to effective control measures and a swift response from the Environment Agency and other organisations, we can confirm there has been minimal damage to the local ecosystem.
Worthing Borough Council want to thank all local residents for their patience over these last few days. The Council also remains committed to the wider transformation of the park
The incident remains under investigation by the Environment Agency.
