Plans to expand Durrington Cemetery were given the go ahead by Worthing Borough Council’s planning committee last night (Wednesday May 30, 2018).

With space for burials in the town running out, the local authority applied to create a new area on an unused field in the current cemetery off Crockhurst Hill.

The new area, which could provide up to 800 spaces, will provide provision for the next 30 to 35 years.

While the vast majority of local residents chose cremation above burials, the move means that the council can continue to offer all options to individuals of all religious beliefs.
