PCSO Rachael Scott rejoined the Hastings Police team to be a positive presence in the community. So when a 2-yr-old boy went missing near woodland, she & a colleague were first on the scene to guide the search with local knowledge.
As PCs, the public, helicopters and dog units joined the search, Rachael and her colleague played a vital role, reassuring the distressed family & ensuring communication between all parties.
Gaining the confidence of family to let us take control can be vital to the outcome – so Rachael stayed with the family until the boy was found.
“Sometimes your voice is your most important tool, and as PCSOs, we are skilled in communicating with people at their time of greatest need.
“The search was policing at its best. I just love the way we all just drop everything to bring a little boy back to where he belongs.
“The dad broke down in tears of relief when he saw his son. He was so grateful for all of our help."
