Colin Oxley Studied at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 1990. In the same year he was voted Best soloist in the National Big band Competition and has gone on to pursue a highly successful musical career.
As a long standing member of singer Stacey Kent’s group, he recorded several albums and toured worldwide, including appearances at festivals such as Montreux, North Sea, Nice and Vienne as well as long spells in New York at the famous Algonquin cabaret room. He has appeared on many T.V and radio shows in the USA and Europe.
Colin currently performs with Andy Cleyndert’s Quartet, The Dave Newton Trio, Rob Barron Quartet, Steve Fishwick Quartet, Nat Steele Quintet, a duo with sax player Martin Speake, The Simon Wolf Sextet, the Back To Basie Orchestra, The Skelton/ Skinner All Stars, BBC Big Band and pianist/singer Eriko Ishihara’ Quartet. He also plays regularly with clarinet star Julian Bliss, with whom he has toured the USA.
With conductor John Wilson, Colin has performed with the Philharmonia orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, Northern Symphonia, CBSO and RLPO. He has appeared with John’s own orchestra every year since 2009 at the BBC Proms. The orchestra has made several albums on the prestigious EMI Classics label.
He has also performed with American greats Bill Charlap, Scott Hamilton, Harry Allen, Hod O’brien, Houston Person, Grant Stewart, John Bunch, Judy Carmichael and Warren Vache.
Colin has appeared on dozens of jazz recordings, most recently in a trio with David Newton and Andy Cleyndert and with pianist Rob Barron’s Quartet. In recent years, he has toured widely in Japan with his wife, Eriko Ishihara and produced several albums for a Japanese record label.
In 2001, Colin was voted Jazz Musician of The Year by the Worshipful Company of Musicians.
As well as touring and recording, Colin teaches Jazz Guitar at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.
