Continuing our Befriending Week celebrations, this is Sophie who has been a Community Companion since March 2019 and has kindly shared her story:
“I have volunteered for a number of years at St Barnabas events and decided to become a Community Companion as well as I wanted to do more for the charity. I love being a Companion; I visit someone on a weekly basis and we sit and chat over a cup of tea. It is an opportunity for the person I visit to have someone new to talk to but I also feel like I get a lot from the visits myself. I have enjoyed meeting an amazing lady who inspires me with the stories of her life and it’s great meeting all the other wonderful companions at events and training.
I feel like I am giving something back to an incredible charity who helped my friend’s mum when she was ill and also supported my friend and her family after she passed away.”
