Here’s a few facts which might surprise you:
REDUCE – Up to 70% of our food waste is edible waste; it could have been eaten at some point before it was thrown away. Beware 2 for 1 bargains, and remember, the ‘best by’ date on food is about quality. Food should not be eaten after the ‘use by’ date.
REUSE – An estimated 13 billion plastic bottles are disposed of each year worldwide. Check out all the water refill stations in Adur and Worthing here and download the app:
RECYCLE – Over 50 % of rubbish in our general rubbish bins in Adur and Worthing could have been recycled, including textiles – that means shoes, clothes, curtains etc.To find out more about local textile banks, click here:
Adur & Worthing Councils are playing their part too. As part of SustainableAW, the Councils have committed to:
– Increasing recycling to 50 per cent of total waste collected by 2020.
– Avoiding using single use plastic
– Reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30 per cent by
– Backing measures to help residents reduce water consumption and save on energy bills.
From September 16th, they are also introducing changes to the bin collection service.
