Have Your Say on Council Tax Support
People are being urged to have their say on Council Tax Support in Adur and Worthing.
Since 2013, local authorities have had the freedom to set their own level of support for those of working age who receive the benefit.
Now, residents in both Adur – which includes Shoreham, Lancing and Southwick; and Worthing, are being asked for their views on the schemes from April 2018.
Each area will have their own survey, which will be available in paper and online.
The consultation asks whether the rules for Housing Benefit and Universal Credit should also apply to Council Tax Support, or whether alternative options should be considered.
Residents in Worthing will be asked if they wish to keep the current £5 a week restriction which means everyone must pay Council Tax of at least £260.71 a year, with extra help made available for those who find this difficult.
Residents in Adur will also be asked if they would like to consider introducing such a restriction or continue with the national scheme, which sees some people of working age being asked to pay no Council Tax.
The survey begins on October 2, 2017 and runs until October 20, 2017 with all responses taken into consideration when the Councils make their final decisions.
The new schemes will start on April 1, 2018.
The survey will be available at the following link: www.adur-worthing.gov.uk/council-tax-support-consultation.
