A 50-year-old lift in the Buckingham Road multi-storey has been replaced as part of a multi-million-pound investment in Worthing’s town centre car parks.
The new lift has been widened to fit wheelchairs and buggies with a new double door system. The mechanism has been updated for a smoother ride with less jolting making it more comfortable for customers.
Cllr Diane Guest, Worthing Borough Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said,“I’m pleased to see that work is underway to provide a cleaner, safer car parking facility for people who live and work in Worthing.
“With the wider, double doors the lift is now wheelchair friendly, making the car park accessible to the whole community.”
The new lifts are just part of a wider plan to make the car park cleaner, modern and safe. So far:
-The area around the lifts has been cleaned up making it more pleasant to use.
-Smart LED lighting has been installed. It’s brighter, better for the environment and saves on energy bills.
-A moveable dome CCTV camera has been installed to make people feel safer.
It is hoped that the new improvements will attract more daily users, including residents and business users.
